2 year Freelance Visa Services

With the increasing popularity of the “gig economy” around the world, the UAE couldn’t help but introduce visas for freelancers in 2023. As the name suggests, the UAE Freelancer Visa is one of the most popular visas in the UAE, allowing the holder to become self-employed and work in the permitted fields. In one syllable, it’s your ticket to freedom! Freedom to live in your favourite country, freedom to use your talent and skills to make money, freedom to work whenever you can, freedom to work from the comfort of your home or even your car, freedom to travel wherever and whenever you want!

Is there any difference between a freelance permit and a freelance visa?

Although both official documents serve a similar purpose, the Dubai freelance permit is for people who are already in Dubai on their spouse’s or parent’s visa. And since they are already sponsored, they do not need a freelance visa like non-sponsored individuals to work as a freelancer in Dubai or any other emirate in the UAE. The freelancer permit or licence is issued under the Sadeem documents that allow the holder to work as an independent contractor and is renewable every year. The freelancer permit is ideal for people living in Dubai on a dependent visa, such as housewives and single parents.

On the other hand, those who are not supported by their parents or spouse and want to work as a freelancer in Dubai must apply for a freelancer visa in Dubai. The freelancer visa is a renewable residence permit that allows the beneficiary to live and work in the emirate for up to three years. A freelancer also needs a work permit to become a full-fledged freelancer. Such a work permit can be issued in the UAE by a few licencing authorities – mainly in free zones. Almost every emirate has a free zone that can issue a freelancer permit and visa.

What documents do I need for a UAE employment visa?

When applying for an employment visa for UAE, you need several supporting documents, such as:

  • Your original passport along with a copy of your passport
  • A passport-size picture, in line with UAE requirements
  • Copies of your academic qualifications. Your qualifications have to be authorized by the UAE Embassy or consulate in your country as well as from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your country.
  • Medical certificate, issued by a government-approved health center in the UAE.
  • Documents from the company hiring you, such as the commercial license of the company or the company card

As per the new employment visa rules in UAE for 2018, a certificate of good conduct is not required, until further notice.
